C20-ACTIVITY GENDER EQUALITY AND STEM EXHIBITION

Amrita Vidyalayam Thalassery partnered with C20 Gender Equality and Disability Working Group to host a STEM exhibition 2023 and a Civic Panel – Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) for Social Good today. The purpose of the C20 Gender Equality and Disability event and STEM exhibition was to showcase the importance of gender equality and disability inclusion in science, technology, engineering, and math fields and inspire the school student community to take action towards creating a more inclusive and equitable society.

The event was a big success, with the Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) students attending and engaging in lively discussions about their ATL Marathon social innovation projects and gender equality and disability inclusion. Over the past three months, 27 teams from Amrita Vidyalayam Thalassery worked on their ATL Marathon 2023 projects. ATL Marathon is Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog’s flagship innovation challenge, where school students identify community problems of their choice and develop innovative solutions in the form of working prototypes. The impressive display of STEM projects and innovations showcased at the exhibition included the work of 74 children, 40 girls and 34 boys.

For the civic panel, we had a diverse group of speakers including Dr Suchitra Sudhir, Founder Chairperson of SWEET (Service for Women Empowerment and Educational Trust), Gynaecologist and Lady Governor of Lions District, Dr. Mini Balakrishnan, Gynaecologist, Former IMA president of Gynaecological Society Kannur, and Dr. Jasmine Shah, Assistant Professor, Department of Plant Science, Central University of Kerala, who shared their personal experiences and perspectives on these topics and interacted with students during the exhibition.
